Summit FAQs

The Global Youth Entrepreneurship Summit (GYES) is YBI’s flagship event and offers a space for YBI members to connect with game changers and sector innovators through workshops and facilitated discussions to explore, ideate, collaborate, and generate new approaches that respond to the ever-changing needs, challenges and aspirations of young entrepreneurs globally.

At GYES 2024 you will connect with a wide audience of individuals working in entrepreneur support organisations, including international development NGOs, micro-finance institutions, entrepreneurs, and private sector organisations. Much of the content at the GYES is aimed at CEOs and leaders, but there will also be lots of networking and knowledge-sharing opportunities which will be inspiring, relevant and useful to anyone with an interest in youth entrepreneurship, and for staff at all levels.

This year’s event will be hosted at the Kenyan School of Monetary Studies (KSMS), which is situated a short distance from the city centre. KSMS have rooms available on site for delegates to book, with facilities such as a swimming pool, gym and indoor/outdoor sports facilities – at no additional cost to guests staying at the venue.

We are also recommending two further accommodation options to delegates, both situated in the Westlands areas of Nairobi, a short distance from the KSMS.

Please click here for further information.

YBI members can attend the Summit for £120 (or £96 for early-bird tickets before 30th April) and non-members can attend for £400 (or £320 for early-bird tickets before 30th April). Additionally, participants will need to cover their travel costs including flights, accommodation and meals (except for refreshments and lunch during the event), as YBI is unable to cover these.

Please note that YBI managed to get a great deal for accommodation at KSMS that attendees can take advantage of (please see the second question in this FAQ).

With the new visa free policy in Kenya, attendees won’t have to pay for visa application, but they will need to have an approved Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) before the start of their journey. Depending on where you are travelling from, there may be a small fee. Please see the eTA website for more information and to apply. There is also more information in the visa FAQ below.

The Global Youth Entrepreneurship Summit is our flagship event for our valued network of members. With this year’s Summit promising to be even more impactful than previous events, we have reached the stage where we need to ask members for a contribution towards the cost of their place at the Summit in the form of a ticket fee.

We recognise that many international conferences charge high ticket fees – this is not YBI’s intention. Instead, we are looking to ensure that those who register are committed to attend, and are providing a small contribution towards the cost of running the event. Therefore, we have kept the fee as low as possible, offering a 70% reduction on the full ticket price for YBI Members (please note that members must be up to date with their 2024 membership fee in order to access the discount).

“Absolutely! The Summit will be your opportunity to learn from, engage with  and connect to other organisations, to share knowledge and be inspired! There will be plenty of structured and unstructured networking opportunities and social activities throughout the event.

This year, we will also innovate and make available to all attendees a conference app called Whova that allows you to connect with other delegates before, during and after the event. You will be able to access the agenda through the app, create your own profile, book 1:1 meetings with other delegates and more! All delegates will have access to the app 3 months prior to the event and will receive instructions in a separate email.”

You can register for the event here.

If you decide to stay at KSMS for accommodation, you won’t need to worry about transportation.

Depending on the number of attendees staying at the two other hotels recommended by us, we might arrange transportation to and from the venue (hotels-venue in the morning and venue-hotels in the evening). This will be confirmed at a later date.

Attendees staying at any other hotel will have to arrange their own transportation. Please see question below for recommended options.

Transportation can be arranged via our recommended agent Crispin Njagi. www.blueberry-travel.com  E: carsnbo1@blueberry-travel.com and  tel:+254 762 266 166 or Naresh Samaria at +254 756 469 997

Alternatively, you can use Uber and make the payment via card, cash or M-Pesa.

Airport cabs are also a safe option, but rates will vary depending on your negotiation skills.

YBI recommends for all attendees to arrange travel insurance as part of their travel arrangements.

Nairobi is considered a ‘low to no risk area’ for malaria and therefore malaria tablets are not normally advised for Nairobi and immediate surrounding areas. If you’re planning to travel to other areas of Kenya, please speak to your healthcare provider.

A yellow fever vaccination certificate will be required for travellers aged 1 year or over arriving from countries with risk of yellow fever transmission.

More information about health considerations when travelling to Kenya can be found here.
